Dell spreads the Ivy Bridge love to new XPS 8500, Vostro 470 PCs (video)

Image

Not willing to let the new Alienware lineup have all the fun with Intel's Ivy Bridge rollout, Dell has seen fit to trot out a pair of new desktop systems using the new 22-nanometer chips. The XPS 8500 is arguably the center of attention here and comes with your pick of the third-generation, quad-core i5 or i7 processors, along with a new choice for a 32GB or 256GB solid-state drive to cut down on those pesky loading times. The more sober-minded among us can opt for the Vostro 470 business desktop, which skips over the raw video prowess of its rebellious XPS cousin in favor of supporting up to 32GB of RAM, not to mention stacking up the extra security and support that makes IT administrators happy. Should you want to take the plunge, $750 will get you into the XPS 8500 fold, while $550 is all it takes for the Vostro 470 line. Head in past the break for a video peep at both PCs.

Update: we've included the full press release after the break.

95% Monsieur Lazhar

All Critics (62) | Top Critics (28) | Fresh (58) | Rotten (3)

A sad, reflective study of the possibilities, and the impossibilities, inherent in the teacher-student relationship.

"Monsieur Lazhar" is good. Really good.

The film is rich in naturalistic, tossed-off details.

A standard liberal tale about an inspirational teacher gradually deepens into a quiet study of how grief works its way through a community.

It's all a bit neat. But whatever the film's limitations, it's certainly engaging to watch.

Its purpose is to present us with a situation, explore the people involved and show us a man who is dealing with his own deep hurts.

It's a subtle meditation on catharsis, and a gentle indictment of over-regulated education...

An Oscar nominee at this year's Academy Awards and for good reason, Falardeau's film is moving, smart and sensitive. Terrific stuff, in short.

Notions of class, cultural, ideological and emotional violence - or perhaps a little of each - take on vastly difference meanings in this sensitively woven French Canadian journey through Algerian exile, student angst and outsider alienation

A quietly affecting character study...remarkable for its subtlety, charm, poignancy, and generosity of spirit.

Remarkably human, touching, brilliant film that never succumbs to melodrama, finding something truthful in the complex relationship between adults and children forced to grow up too soon.

Monsieur Lazhar does the best job of summing up the appeal of his own movie: "A classroom is a place of friendship, of work and of courtesy ... a place of life."

"Monsieur Lazhar" is a complex, multilayered tale that reveals new meanings as it introduces each new character.

A sensitive and fairly subtle work, with the deceptive simplicity of a well-honed short story.

A subtle, wise, beautifully rendered tale, with exemplary scenes in the classroom between an amateur cast of savvy children and, as Monsieur Lazhar, a great actor, Mohamed Fellag.

Perceptive and humanistic, Monsieur Lazhar unfolds in a world that recognizes and embraces complexity and duality, and isn't dishonest about the piecemeal way in which emotional centeredness is often achieved.

Sensitive, imbued with melancholy

Internet Marketers Need Podcasts Too | scotweb2.co.uk

Podcasting is something that most people attribute to geeks and web celebrities. There could be a misperception that podcasting is only for radio. But for marketing purposes, you?ll just use it to get your marketing messages out there in the same way as you would use an article. Some people even make people pay to listen to their podcasts. But the average person does not try to make people pay for it. Naturally you can begin to market to your listeners with your podcasts. We?ll cover how to make podcasts for your business and get them out there on the net.

Avoid wasting time when making your points. No need to worry about making them a certain length ? just avoid being boring and offer good content. People hate filler material because it wastes time, so don?t give them any in your podcasts. Most podcast fans agree that shorter podcasts are better than longer podcasts. People listen because they want something, so just give it to them in a relaxed manner. You?re not stuck in an elevator having to make small talk! Just focus on the valuable content, and you?ll pick it up in time. Of course you?ll need some quiet place to do this. Remember you?ll do final audio editing, real easy, and you can filter or cut out noise spikes, etc. You can always try to coordinate your recordings during quiet times in the house. You?ll find that if it?s quiet, your microphone will pick-up your speech easier. If your mind is not on the possibility of being interrupted, then your podcast will be better.

Always ensure you create original content for your podcasts. But as long as you give proper credit, you can refer to anyone elses work or material. It would probably be best if you did some research regarding giving proper credit involving copyrights.

The best way to use someone else?s material is in support of your own argument. Put your own stamp on your podcasts because they are coming from you, and you?re suppose to be the expert on the topic.

If you take the time to learn how to do it, podcasting can get just as much done for your business as many other methods. Also, you can charge people for access to your content, or do what most do and give it away for free.

It?s absolutely true that podcasts can get you the kind of results you?re looking for in online marketing. It?s all about relationship marketing, and you need to establish a degree of trust with your listeners just like any other method. It?s really no secret at all to making win/win business relationships.

Just-Eat Just Raised Another $64M From Vitruvian, Index, Greylock For Online Food Ordering

just eat logoThe UK may have just entered a double-dip recession but that doesn't seem to have trickled down to how consumers are spending money on take-out food -- and the companies that are building businesses around that. The UK-based online food ordering site Just-Eat has picked up a third round of funding totaling $64 million, its biggest yet, to further build out its online food ordering service. The round was led by private equity firm Vitruvian Partners, with participation from existing investors Index Ventures, Greylock Partners and Redpoint Ventures. The investment comes only a year after the company raised a venture round of $48 million, and a Series A of $17.4 million in 2009, and brings the total funding in the company up to a whopping $129.4 million in the last three years.
